Product Overview

Lava 20 Fast Primer is a transparent, rigid, deep-penetrating polyurethane primer known for its quick drying and fast curing properties.

Primary Use

This primer is ideal for preparing absorbent surfaces such as concrete, mortar, plaster, and wood for the application of polyurethane waterproofing coatings and joint sealants.

Consumption

  • Rate:  150 -200g/m² per layer
  • This coverage estimate is based on practical application with a roller on a smooth surface under optimal conditions. Actual consumption may vary depending on surface porosity, temperature, humidity, application method, and desired finish.

Application Guidelines

Surface Preparation

Proper surface preparation is crucial for achieving an optimal finish and ensuring durability. Follow these steps:

  1. Cleanliness: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and structurally sound. Remove all contaminants that could impair adhesion.
  2. Moisture: The maximum moisture content should not exceed 5%.
  3. Strength: The substrate should have a compressive strength of at least 25 MPa and a cohesive bond strength of at least 1.5 MPa.
  4. Drying Time: New concrete structures must cure for a minimum of 28 days.
  5. Removal of Contaminants: Eliminate old coatings, dirt, fats, oils, organic substances, and dust using a grinding machine.
  6. Surface Irregularities: Smooth any uneven areas. Remove loose particles and grinding dust thoroughly.

Warnings:

  • Do not wash the surface with water.
  • Do not use a metal-ball blasting machine, as it can damage the concrete surface and reduce stability.

Priming

  1. Application: Apply Lava 20 Fast Primer using a roller or brush until the surface is fully covered. Airless spray application can significantly reduce labour.
  2. Tackiness: Apply the polyurethane coating or joint sealant while the primer is still slightly tacky.
  3. Brittle Surfaces: For very brittle surfaces, such as lightweight concrete or highly porous cement screed, apply two layers of Lava 20 Fast Primer.
